“Plein air” by Diane Johns

Raising awareness for Respiratory Research in memory of Diane Johns; “Plein Air” celebrates Diane’s paintings; exploring the raw beauty and crisp clean light of Te Waipounamu South Island high country.

The practice of painting in the landscape, plein air, is a fitting title for Diane’s paintings. Her attraction to the barren majesty of the South Island high country combined with the crisp dry air were both a balm and escape. Diane managed Bronchiectasis a respiratory condition from the age of ten, with diligence and stoic dignity. She painted intensely from the 1990s until 2015, producing over sixty completed canvases.
