About MORKS: Enter the Void

Official Opening: Saturday 2 May, 5 – 7pm. All welcome!

Morks was born and raised in Hawkes Bay, and after moving South while being in active service, has settled in South Canterbury, at the foothills of the Southern alps.

A frequent fisherman and outdoorsman, Morks is an artist who creates his works using various materials and mediums from large-scale murals using aerosol paints, wild multi-layered abstract acrylic/oil canvases, wooden sculptures, hand painted skateboards and merchandise.

Morks creates his own limited edition t-shirts all made in New Zealand, engaging a locally owned small business who have supported him for many years.

After more than 25 years in the tattoo industry, traces of character and traditional tattoo images ripple through his artwork today, adding in unique colourway choices and patterns.

Current inspiration is drawn from his past success in the art world, fatherhood, family and friends, with nature and landscapes being his biggest influence.

Recently Morks has shown works at the Ivy box gallery in Queenstown, Limn gallery in Ponsonby, Fiksate and Flare galleries in Christchurch and was a part of the Shift takeover show inside the Christchurch museum.

Over the last few years Morks was lucky enough to form a very close friendship with (ONZM) Philip Trusttum. After many conversations about rugby and art, Philip eventually became Morks’ mentor, advisor and friend, lending many hours of knowledge and advice about the art world.

Traces of Philip’s work can be seen throughout Morks recent works.

Oxford Gallery is open Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm
