Mostly flat, they’re easy to ride and offer options for every style, whether you prefer straighter, flatter routes along stop banks or more adventurous twists and turns on mountain bike trails. Plan your journey or simply discover as you go, stopping to relax in welcoming beach settlements and towns. Trails can be ridden individually or linked together using on-road facilities. Most are two-way and shared with walkers, so remember cycling etiquette and road rules. To get the best of the surrounding areas, check out ideas below.

GRADE:
DISTANCE: 32 km

ACCESS: Numerous Accesses

ABOUT: This trail encompasses a number of smaller trails in the district to create a longer more connected ride. This ride takes you from Kaiapoi, alongside our rivers, through regenerating environments into small coastal settlements, alongside farmlands into Rangiora. There are opportunities along the way to eat, swim, stay and explore.

GRADE 2
DISTANCE: 11 km

ACCESS: Wrights Road Car Park. Gates open 7 am – 10 pm (7pm outside daylight savings).

ABOUT: Trails are subject to weather conditions and are therefore rustic in nature. Good for a bit of fun mountain bike riding along the river and in the trees.

DISTANCE: 5 km

ACCESS: Woodend Beach

ABOUT: The Tūtaepatu trail connects Waikuku and Woodend beach settlements. An easy ride with views of the Te Kōhanga Wetlands and boasts views of the foothills of the Southern Alps. Replenish at the Waikuku Beach Store and take a dip in the sea. Both beaches are surf patrolled in the summer.

ACCESS: Stop bank at end of Park Terrace, Waikuku Beach

ABOUT: A fun, shared-use, one-way mountain bike track that takes you from Waikuku Beach to Cones Road Car Park in Rangiora, or continue on for a further 6.5 km loop.

ACCESS: Kaiapooi: Raven Quay, Smith Street, Rangiora: Linesside Road, Southbrook

ABOUT: A great offroad connector to get you between Kaiapoi and Rangiora. This allows you to create a loop within the district.

ACCESS: Woodend Beach

ABOUT: Connects Woodend Beach with Woodend Township.

ACCESS: Titimoana Drive, Pegasus

ABOUT: Add this easy loop on to your ride, and head into Pegasus Town for a look around, take a wander and head over the swing bridge, stop for a replenishment with a choice of two eateries.

ACCESS: Corner of Pegasus Boulevard and Infinity Drive, Pegasus

ABOUT: Head up on this trail to get views of the Pegasus Golf Course, and the Pegasus Town.
