About Matariki Kaiapoi

Lime Real Esate Matariki Kaiapoi, on Friday 10th July at Norman Kirk Park, 4pm-8pm! Fireworks at 7pm!
Plus Saturday 11th July, 12pm-9pm, at Norman Kirk Park (no Fireworks on Saturday).
Free Entry!
Our last Matariki was one of the biggest events in North Canterbury with an estimated crowd of 15,000 people! We are looking forward to another big event this year!
Once again, there will be an exciting fireworks display (Friday), Kapa Haka, a fantastic selection of kai and market vendors, live music and performers. Plus a fun filled fairground!
We also want people to learn about the history and tikanga (traditions) of Matariki, in an entertaining and unique way.
Matariki is a special occasion in Aotearoa NZ – it marks the start of the Māori New Year with the appearance of the Matariki cluster of stars appearing in our night sky and it is a time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present, and plan for the year ahead.
The event will be about bringing people together for kai, kanikani, waiata, fun and the fireworks!
Over the same week we will also be running the hugely popular Kaiapoi Lights – a beautiful light path alongside the Kaiapoi River, Cochrane Park, from Wednesday 8th July til Saturday 11th July. Tickets to this event will be open for sale very soon!
