Begin your morning with a brisk stroll to the Kaiapoi Island Lookout. This cruisy 2.5km (one way) trail takes you to where the Kaiapoi and Waimakariri Rivers meet. Look for the sign to the Lookout on the left of the track as you head toward a sweeping corner.

After assessing the river by land, why not check it out by boat? Hop on board the iconic Kaiapoi River Queen and admire the view from the water’s surface. Sit inside or out and remember your camera. Allow two hours for this round trip. Tide matters so bookings are essential.
